Particle Counting System

As part of its ongoing research and development efforts, EREA has designed a particle counting system. This incorporates a specially developed three-way valve to maximise the recovery of non-viable particles, providing more accurate results while protecting the particle counter during bio-decontamination. Rigorously tested and validated by AeroLAB, this system guarantees optimum reliability and performance.

Project goals

The development of this system has several strategic objectives:

  • Design a three-way valve optimised to improve the accuracy and reliability of particle counting in controlled environments.
  • Reinforce the protection of the particle counter by limiting its exposure to H2O2 during bio-decontamination.
  • Maximise limitation of non-viable particle retention during measurement.

Technical specifications

The particle counting system developed by EREA is based on major innovations:

  • Special three-way valve: optimised to minimise the retention of non-viable particles.
  • Uniform diameters throughout the measurement circuit (special machining): guaranteeing homogeneous flow and optimising performance, while minimising particle retention.
  • Improved performance: tests demonstrated a counting efficiency of 69% with the three-way valve, compared with 73% using a BEV-A-LINE 9.53/12.7 tube configuration with a BEV-A-LINE 6.35/9.53 tube contraction connected directly to the particle counter.
  • Validation by AeroLAB: attesting to the compliance and efficiency of the system according to strict standards.

Benefits and competitive advantages

EREA’s R&D approach is based on several key innovations:

  • Optimised valve design to maximise retention of non-viable particles.
  • Improved bio-decontamination process, ensuring better protection of measuring instruments.
  • Comparison with existing solutions, demonstrating a significant improvement in the limitation of particle retention, thereby increasing the reliability of measurements and the quality of aseptic environments.

Impact and outlook

This project represents a major step forward for industries requiring strict particle control, in particular the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and cleanroom sectors. Thanks to our innovation, we are providing a high-performance solution that exceeds market standards.
