Open RABS – EREA Pharma, Manufacturer of Open RABS

Open RABS - EREA Pharma, Manufacturer of Open RABS

The use of a Restricted Access Barrier System (RABS) is the best solution for safely carrying out your processes involving sterile, toxic or cytotoxic products. This barrier technology has been widely used in the pharmaceutical industry since it was first developed.

It provides a hermetically sealed enclosure separated from the room environment, for the protection of the operator, the environment and the product. EREA is a designer and manufacturer of open RABS for the pharmaceutical industry.

RABS or Restricted Access Barrier Systems made in EREA Pharma

The Restricted Access Barrier System (RABS) is a barrier system used in the pharmaceutical industry to separate personnel from the product during handling or processing. Its use protects the operator, the product and the environment.

EREA designs and manufactures customized RABS. Its products are designed to offer a high level of containment and to adapt to all line configurations and cleanrooms. Three RABS models are offered by EREA:

  • Open RABS, available as passive open RABS and active open RABS;
  • closed RABS.

The difference between closed and open RABS

Each type of RABS offered by EREA Pharma has its own characteristics and applications.

Open RABS

Open RABS are available as open RABS with passive flow and open RABS with active flow.

Open RABS with passive flow has the special feature of being equipped with an air supply device dependent on the cleanroom filtration system (customer’s blower ceiling (FLV)). The air is exhausted through the lower part of the restricted-access barrier system. PETG doors provide excellent visibility. Process safety is guaranteed by the interlocking system fitted to these doors. EREA’s passive open RABS is suitable for non-toxic products.

As for the open RABS with active flow, its air supply solution is equipped with a filtration station. The air is HEPA-filtered. In addition, the doors of this restricted access barrier system are secured by laminar flow. The doors can be interlocked and offer excellent visibility. The air exhaust zone is located in the lower part of the equipment. EREA’s open RABS with active flow is suitable for non-toxic products.

Closed RABS

The closed RABS is an enclosed restricted access barrier system. It provides a hermetically sealed workspace. Consequently, it has its own air supply and recirculation system. This model is used for handling and processing highly active and cytotoxic products.

Like other RABS models, EREA’s closed RABS can be customized. It can be fitted with RTP systems, interlocking access doors, glove ports and EM systems.
